Ladies and gentlemen, hold onto your watch straps because we’re about to dive into a story of horological innovation, gratitude, and a dash of mad genius. MB&F, the daring team known for pushing the boundaries of watchmaking, has just unveiled their latest creation: the M.A.D.1 GREEN. But this isn’t just any watch; it’s the third installment in the M.A.D.Editions series, born from a wild idea and a heartfelt thank you to their supporters.

A Thank You Like No Other

Picture this: A watch brand renowned for crafting timepieces with price tags that make your eyes water decides to embark on a journey to express their gratitude. It all began with a tinge of frustration—MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser couldn’t bear the thought that some of his nearest and dearest couldn’t afford his creations. So, he hatched a plan to give something back to those who had played a pivotal role in the brand’s success.

Nearly two decades ago, Maximilian had a vision for an affordable watch brand that would run parallel to MB&F. This vision simmered on the back burner until 2014, when it resurfaced briefly, only to be put aside again. Jump ahead to 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, the MB&F team, connected via countless Zoom meetings, breathed life back into the idea. Between 2020 and mid-2021, they meticulously crafted the M.A.D.1’s design, investing their creativity into a more accessible price point.

The M.A.D.1 BLUE: A Hidden Gem

Now, here’s the twist: The M.A.D.1 was never formally launched. In June 2021, with no prior announcement, it quietly made its debut through a simple email to MB&F’s suppliers and collectors. The shocker? A jaw-dropping price of approximately $2,000, a fraction of what you’d expect from MB&F. This was a thank you to their “Friends,” the talented artisans who helped shape their timepieces, and their “Tribe,” the loyal collectors who made their brand a reality.

The M.A.D.1 BLUE edition, recognizable by its blue accents, instantly ignited a firestorm of demand. Soon, the world caught wind of this horological gem, and the floodgates of desire swung wide open.

What Sparked the Craze?

The M.A.D.1 is no ordinary watch. It boasted the same creative D.N.A. as an MB&F Machine but had an extra challenge: affordability. Rather than starting from scratch, they modified a trusted movement, the Miyota 821A. The result? A timepiece with a unique case structure, upside-down movement, and striking aluminum cylinder displays.

Housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, the M.A.D.1 features blue, red, or in the case of the third edition, green accents and Super-LumiNova for hours of spinning fun in the dark. It is a marvel of innovation without breaking the bank.

M.A.D.1 RED: The Public Debut

In March 2022, the M.A.D.1 RED. burst onto the scene, flaunting its vibrant cherry-red design. It featured a slimmer bezel and a traditional winding crown. But the real twist was the price, adjusted to approximately $3,100. MB&F manufactured 1,500 M.A.D.1 REDs, giving priority to those who had previously expressed interest. The rest entered a raffle, which drew a whopping 19,000 hopefuls. Winners were chosen at random, ensuring fairness.

The Raffle Revolution

Now, here’s where things get tricky. MB&F’s talented team crafts around 400 watches yearly, and assembling hundreds or thousands of M.A.D.1 timepieces was simply out of the question. So, after much contemplation, they decided to meet the staggering demand with fairness in mind.

The raffle system wasn’t just about luck; it was about leveling the playing field. Traditional methods like queuing for hours or waiting lists were frustrating. Raffles, on the other hand, gave everyone an equal shot. It wasn’t perfect, but it was the fairest way.

M.A.D.1 GREEN: The Next Adventure Begins

And now, drumroll, please! MB&F has unveiled the M.A.D.1 GREEN, the latest chapter in this horological adventure. With its vibrant mint green color, it promises to be the talk of the town. Just like its predecessors, it will be available through the M.A.D.Editions raffle system. Starting September 12th, watch enthusiasts can enter for a chance to own a piece of this extraordinary collection. With 1,500 pieces up for grabs, there’s hope for everyone.
