The cover and dial of the exceptional SLIM D’HERMÈS pocket watch reinterpret the Masan & Masan silk scarf motif by Thai designer Terawat Teankaprasith. The ancient craft of horsehair weaving, known as “masan,” which means “braided horse” in Thai, involves gathering the abundant water hyacinth, sun-drying it, and then painstakingly hand-weaving it to create various objects such as baskets, hats, and animal figurines. Inspired by this Oriental basket-making technique, the SLIM D’HERMÈS Masan Masan combines engraving and horsehair marquetry to offer a subtle homage to the equestrian world cherished by Hermès. With meticulous care, the artisan selects different shades of horsehair, cuts them, and then delicately glues them one by one to compose the intricate motif. The engraver, skillfully combining brilliance and contrast, breathes life into the second horse profile, adding texture and depth using traditional burins and chisels.
