The Ferdinand Berthoud CHRONOMÈTRE FB 3SPC, a marvel in the world of luxury timepieces, is celebrating its first anniversary in grand style. Having recently clinched the “Chronometry prize” at the GPHG 2023, this watch has already carved out a niche for itself, gaining recognition and multiple accolades within a year of its debut. As it marks this milestone, the Chronomètre FB 3SPC reveals a breathtaking new version, elegantly pairing a white gold case with a striking black movement.

This timepiece stands out as the only wristwatch featuring a variable-inertia balance and a cylindrical balance spring to receive the official chronometer certification from the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). Revolution magazine honored it as the “Best Men’s Watch 2022,” and it secured the top spot in the “High Watchmaking” category at the “CH24 Watch of the Year 2023” competition. The recent addition of the “Chronometry prize” at the GPHG 2023 further cements its position in the pantheon of elite timepieces.

The FB 3 collection, which includes the FB 3SPC, represents a distinct departure from the FB 1 and FB 2 collections. While the earlier collections echoed Ferdinand Berthoud’s marine chronometers with their constant-force mechanisms, the FB 3 series embraces a new perspective on precision, emphasizing the cylindrical balance spring. This type of hairspring, known for its stability, was a preferred choice of Ferdinand Berthoud and his nephew Louis Berthoud in crafting their high-precision timepieces.

Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, President of Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, shares the inspiration behind the Chronomètre FB 3SPC. The aim was to incorporate this specific type of balance-spring into a wristwatch, maintaining its primary function of ensuring accuracy. He expresses his delight in overcoming this challenge and the collection’s continued success, as evidenced by the latest award at the GPHG.
