Introduced today, The Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 41.5 Platinum “Celestial Blue” Blue Moon watch immerses you in the ethereal beauty of a starry night. Its design combines the cold shimmer of a moonlit sky with the sheer presence of a large mother-of-pearl moon, all enveloped in the pale gleam of platinum. This timepiece expands the Perpetual Moon collection, showcasing different variations of the largest astronomical moon while exuding an aura of celestial elegance. Every aspect of this extraordinary watch evokes the radiant enchantment of the night sky. The dial, meticulously stamped with the House’s signature “Stellar Rays” decor, captures the essence of twinkling stars. The moon disc, set against a grained sky, creates a captivating scene reminiscent of a serene nocturnal panorama. The navy blue alligator leather strap adds a touch of sophistication, completing the harmonious composition.

Arnold & Son’s dedication to exploring and refining the moon-phase theme is evident in this timepiece. Building upon the success of the Perpetual Moon collection, the brand has carefully redesigned this celestial-blue version to achieve greater refinement and subtlety. Once in a cross shape, the lugs have been simplified and now sport taut plunging bars with beveled ends. They seamlessly merge with the case middle, both in construction and appearance, enhancing the watch’s overall elegance. The case size has been slightly reduced to 41.5 mm without compromising the dial opening, resulting in a slimmer bezel that draws the eye towards the captivating dial.

The dial itself is a work of art, adorned with the mesmerizing “Stellar Rays” finish. Crafted through masterful irregular engraving, the rays vary in depth and width, creating a rhythmic interplay of light that dances across the dial. Multiple layers of transparent lacquer add depth, accentuating the stunning effect. The centerpiece of this horological marvel is the large white mother-of-pearl moon, meticulously painted with delicate shadows and coated with Super-LumiNova for a subtle glow in low-light conditions. It rests upon a grained sky treated with midnight-blue Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), reminiscent of the profound darkness of the cosmos. Surrounding the moon are hand-painted constellations—the iconic Big Dipper and Cassiopeia—also coated with luminescent material. These constellations pay tribute to John Arnold’s legacy as a renowned maker of naval chronometers, symbolizing the brand’s historical connection to navigation and exploration. The inclusion of the North Star, positioned between these constellations, adds both functional and poetic significance, as it traditionally helped determine a ship’s position in the vastness of the open seas.

Flipping the watch reveals a case back featuring a secondary indicator for quick and precise adjustment of the moon phase. Powering this timepiece is the hand-wound caliber A&S1512, a meticulously crafted movement developed entirely in-house at the Arnold & Son Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The movement boasts exceptional accuracy, meticulously tracking the lunar cycle with precision. A complete lunar cycle spans 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.8 seconds, and the A&S1512 captures this in such a way that it would take 122 years for a day’s difference to accumulate between its display and the actual celestial cycle—a testament to the watch’s extraordinary accuracy. The A&S1512 caliber, like all Arnold & Son movements, showcases the brand’s commitment to excellence. With two barrels and an oscillating frequency of 3 Hz, it provides an impressive power reserve of 90 hours, ensuring reliable timekeeping and convenience for the wearer.
