In a dazzling display of watchmaking know-how, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud has once again captured the essence of precision timekeeping with the unveiling of their latest timepiece, the Chronomètre FB RES. Building upon the success of their previous Chronomètre FB 2RE collection, this new iteration showcases the Maison’s unwavering commitment to innovation and craftsmanship.

Four years ago, the world was introduced to the groundbreaking Chronomètre FB 2RE, a timepiece that not only pushed the boundaries of traditional watchmaking but also garnered acclaim for its unparalleled precision. Now, with the Chronomètre FB RES, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud takes this legacy to new heights by offering collectors a customizable version of the Remontoire, revealing the intricate inner workings of the timepiece like never before.

At the heart of the Chronomètre FB RES lies the Calibre FB-RES.FC, a marvel of mechanical engineering that combines fusee-and-chain transmission with a one-second remontoire. This sophisticated double regulation system ensures a consistent flow of energy to the escapement, resulting in impeccable accuracy. The large central seconds hand, driven by the remontoire, moves in precise one-second intervals, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship that defines Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud.

But it is not just the Chronomètre FB RES’s technical prowess that sets it apart; it is also its appearance. The redesigned dial features a technical combination of bridges and mainplate, offering a glimpse into the intricate calibre that powers this extraordinary timepiece. Inspired by a historical skeletonized table clock created by Ferdinand Berthoud in 1775, the Chronomètre FB RES pays homage to the Maison’s rich heritage while embracing modern design sensibilities.

One cannot overlook the painstaking attention to detail that has gone into the creation of the Chronomètre FB RES. Each component of the movement – from the wheels to the screws – is hand-decorated, a testament to the Maison’s dedication to excellence. The finishing process alone involves over two linear meters of hand chamfering, resulting in a level of refinement unmatched in the Haute Horlogerie world.

What truly sets the Chronomètre FB RES apart, however, is its unprecedented level of customization. With thirty-eight movements set to be produced, collectors will have the opportunity to create their own unique timepiece, with options ranging from case shape and material to dial color and finish. This level of personalization, made possible through an online configurator, marks a new chapter in the Maison’s storied history.

In the words of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, President of Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, “We are fortunate to have in our Fleurier Museum this clock made in 1775 by Ferdinand Berthoud, which reveals its movement, including a ‘remontoir d’égalité’. Imagining a modern interpretation of this exceptional work seemed a quite logical step. This gave rise to the idea behind the FB RES collection: a skeletonised, more technical version of our own Calibre FB-RE.FC with a one-second remontoire mechanism.”
